In conjunction with the Executive Director, the Executive duties include upholding and maintaining the Bylaws and Policies of the Association, being responsible for the administration of the Association and the maintenance and administration of the Students’ Association building, maintaining the daily operations of SARDP.

All of the Executives have offices (and office hours) in the second story of the SA building (above the Far Side Bar & Grill).

Students’ Association Council

Council is the highest governing body of the Students’ Association; all major decisions are made by Council. Council consists of 12 elected Councillors and the Executive Council. Councillors represent and govern on behalf of students.

Being a Councillor is a great way to become involved in student life at Red Deer Polytechnic! It’s a great way to make new connections while making a difference on campus.

If you are interested in ensuring student concerns are brought forward, lobbying for the rights of students, helping organize events, and making sure students have an opportunity to have the best possible experience, please stop by the SA office!

Council meetings are open to the Members, so consider yourself invited!

The people on Council have many roles and duties. Some of these include ensuring that the opinions and concerns of their student constituents are represented in the decision-making of the Council, promoting the interests of the Membership, and putting the interests of Membership above their own interests.

Students’ Association Council meetings are held approximately twice a month during the school year and at least twice during the summer.

As a member of Council, you are also expected to join one Council Committee. These committees vary in the time and the number of meetings that are required, so if you have the time, you can even sign up to participate in more than one!

One of your responsibilities is to attend at least 1 SA hosted events per month to connect with the students you represent.

As a representative, it is important you engage with your constituents. As such, you will be expected to talk to students in the hallways and gathering places at RDP. Occasionally, there may be other meetings you will have to attend, but that’s pretty much it in a nutshell!

Council is composed of 12 representatives, as well as three Executive members, one Board of Governors rep, our Chairperson, Secretary, and Executive Director. But as a Council member, it is your job to meet as many people as you can and help spread the word about events and information at the Students’ Association. In other words, you’ll meet tons of other great students!

There are many great benefits to being on Council. New friends are just around the corner and you can build both your personal and professional network. You will get to help your fellow students and possibly get that warm, fuzzy feeling inside! Put this experience on your resume and boost your credentials. And last, but not least, you’ll learn a few things about the college, others, and yourself.

Board of Governors Student Member

The Board of Governors Student Members provide the vital student perspective on the Polytechnic’s highest governing level in house, the Board of Governors. The Board manages and operates RDP, and our Student Members ensure that the student perspective is heard and considered at each meeting. Student Council elects these Student Members for a two-year term.
