Extended Health and Dental

The Students’ Association is proud to offer an affordable Extended Health & Dental Plan for all full-time and part-time credit Red Deer Polytechnic students.

Extended Health and Dental plans were approved by student referendum, making them a requirement of enrolment at Red Deer Polytechnic. The cost of the plans is included in your fees, provided you meet the eligibility requirements for enrollment.

If you have other extended health and/or dental coverage, you are given one opportunity a year to opt-out of the Student Benefits Plan. The required opt-out form (available online) must be completed and submitted to the Students’ Association of Red Deer Polytechnic Student Benefits Office by the opt-out deadline.

International Students Interim & Repatriation Insurance

As of July 1, 2023, all continuing and returning international students will no longer be covered under Guardme Insurance Plan; instead you will be automatically enrolled in the 90-day term International Student Interim & Repatriation Insurance, mycanadaplan.

Interim Health Insurance – $124.00 per semester

All new and returning international students are charged for the Interim Health Insurance in lieu of Alberta Health Care. The Interim Health Insurance is valid for 90 days from the first day of the month in which you commence your studies at Red Deer Polytechnic.

Note: It is the student’s responsibility to get their Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan (AHCIP) within 90 days and maintain an active AHCIP while studying in Alberta.

The Interim Health Insurance is fully refundable for international students once they have Alberta Health Care coverage. To opt-out, complete the International Student Medical Plan Opt-Out Form and provide proof of Alberta Health Care by the 15th day of your first month of attending Red Deer Polytechnic.

Once your opt-out is approved and processed, you will see a credit on your RDP Tuition Fee Statement.

Repatriation Insurance – $52.00 per year

Repatriation Insurance is a mandatory, yearly fee for all new, continuing, and returning international students. If an international student passes away while attending Red Deer Polytechnic, the Repatriation Insurance will assist their families with transporting remains back to their home country.

We have moved to a continuous enrollment plan, which is a fancy way of saying that you will have benefit coverage for 12 months from your first day of attending classes at Red Deer Polytechnic.

Because we are adopting continuous enrollment, all students will be required to pay the annual fee in full at the start of their academic term. Some of the advantages of this change include not having to maintain full-time status to keep your benefits, and even if you are only attending for one term, you will have coverage for a full 12 months.
